With its publication of Prized Writing each fall, the University Writing Program holds a ceremony to honor the students from across campus whose works are in the book, and acknowledge the importance UC Davis places on writing, regardless of major.

As an undergraduate at the University of California, Davis, Liz Garone was among the authors whose works went into the university鈥檚 first book of Prized Writing (1989-90).

Her personal story, 鈥淣ot Simply Pure 鈥� Olive Oil,鈥� about how her grand猫咪社区 brought along gallons of it when they immigrated from Italy and how it is her favorite moisturizer, would help launch her writing career.

鈥楶rized Writing,鈥� Vol. 29, to Debut Oct. 9

UC Davis鈥� University Writing Program will soon debut its 29th annual edition of Prized Writing, featuring the work of 26 undergraduates from across the disciplines. The book will be officially released at an event scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 9.

The first week of October brings two events showcasing UC Davis writers 鈥� undergraduates and faculty members.

鈥� Prized Writing 鈥� A celebration of the University Writing Program's 28th annual edition of undergraduate works from any discipline. This year鈥檚 book comprises 23 pieces selected from among more than 400 entries from the 2016-17 academic year.

UC Davis shows off its writing chops at all levels with the Prized Writing awards ceremony for undergraduates tonight (Sept. 27) and 鈥淥pening Night鈥� with creative writing faculty members next week. In addition, the Creative Writing Program announced its 2016-17 series of readings by visiting writers.
