Students Prepare for Undergraduate Research Conference

UC Davis student Natasha Bibbs of Sacramento has already gone places with academic research — and she hopes to go even further.

The fourth-year student travelled about 2,000 miles to Louisiana and more than 150 years back in time to discover how someone she believes is an ancestor — perhaps her great-great-grandfather — became one of the first Black doctors in his community and used his status to contribute to the African American community.

Give Day Sets New Fundraising Record

The spirit of Give Day was in full swing as the UC Davis community rallied together for the ninth annual celebration, held over Picnic Day weekend. With more than 4,100 donations made both online and in person, this year’s event raised nearly $4.5 million — surpassing the previous dollar amount record of $4.1 million set in 2022.

This week, we learned through our Services for International Students and Scholars unit that the federal government terminated the eligibility of many international students across the country to stay in the U.S.

The university will hold the second annual Remembrance Ceremony on May 19 from noon-1 p.m. at the UC Davis Conference Center Ballrooms. The ceremony provides a space for the university community to honor the students, faculty and staff we have lost in the past year.

Q&A: How Tech Foundry Hopes to Have an Impact at Aggie Square

When a researcher at UC Davis needs a tool that doesn’t exist, they often turn to Tech Foundry, a facility that uses 3D printers, CNC machines and laser cutters to create one-of-a-kind devices and prototypes.

The development facility, known previously as the TEAM Lab, is operated by the Department of Biomedical Engineering and has had a location in Davis for more than 15 years, and is now in the process of opening a second space in Aggie Square.

Feedback Requested on Systemwide Academic Calendar Draft Report

Last fall, the University of California began the process of exploring whether all UC general campuses should operate under a common calendar. UC Provost Katherine S. Newman and 2024-25 systemwide Academic Senate Chair Steven W. Cheung have launched an Academic Planning Council Workgroup on a Systemwide Academic Calendar.

Summer Sessions To Share Info on Options for Students

Summer Sessions is hosting a Summer Resource Fair next week to let students know the academic and personal resources that they can access from June through September.

Omega Lee, executive director of Summer Sessions, said the fair aims to highlight the ways that students can stay involved on campus throughout the summer.
